Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo

Minnesota Top Team's BJJ program is run under the association of Rigan Machado. We boast 2600 sq feet of mat space dedicated entirely to BJJ 5 days per week for both Adult and Youth programs. We are proud of the open and welcome environment we have created at MTT and we welcome all levels from the novice to the advanced. We provide top notch instruction by extremely dedicated and excellent instructors. We encourage you to come and try out a class for free and check out Minnesota Top Team.

ADULT BJJ

Our adult program starts for those at approx age 15 (depending on size).  Our classes are run by our head instructor, Machado Purple Belt Ryan Iverson.  BJJ is a martial art that teaches how to control an opponent on the ground and provides an intense workout and learning curve like no other art.  We have a Gi class on Tuesdays, No Gi on Thursdays and either/or on Saturdays. We have a very welcoming team and all levels from the first-timer to the very experienced are welcome.

YOUTH BJJ

Our youth brazilian jiu jitsu program is for kids ages 8/9-14 (depending on size) and is run by our Youth BJJ Instructor, Machado Blue Belt Kevin Blackburn.  Youth jiu jitsu is an excellent way for kids to gain confidence and learn the fundamentals of self defense while getting exceptional conditioning through the rigors of BJJ.  Youth wrestlers can benefit greatly by adding a Jiu Jitsu component to their training because BJJ essentially builds stability, strength, and fluid movement on the mat.   Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15pm.

Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

The Machado Brothers have developed their system of Jiu-Jitsu (gentle art) over the last 25 years. The Jiu-Jitsu they learned in Brazil has been refined by their clan into a modern and unique style which is increasingly popular in the United States.

Emanating from Brazil, their family has demonstrated the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in many "no rules" tournaments. The Machado Brothers, advancing their spirit of a top-quality fighting style tempered with humility and friendship, have kept away from these types of violent and decisive exhibitions. They have demonstrated their superiority on the mat, winning numerous Brazilian championships and national and world titles in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Russian sambo and even western wrestling. The system is rooted in one-on-one ground fighting, achieving superior position for joint locks, chokes and strikes.

Since basing themselves in the United States, the Brothers have continued to develop their grappling style, branching out into all styles of grappling in search of new techniques and concepts.

About BJJ

Since it was showcased on the international stage of the early UFC events in the 1990s, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (also referred to as "BJJ") has exploded in prominence amongst martial arts practitioners. During those early competitions. The world watched in amazement as Royce Gracie methodically defeated much bigger and stronger opponents by utilizing the BJJ principles of leverage, position, and superior technique to win in a series of submission victories. Today, BJJ is widely credited for spotlighting the importance of ground fighting and has become the staple grappling art of many MMA fighters.

Judo, as the perfect complement to Jiu-Jitsu, places a greater emphasis on the grappling elements while standing. Judo practitioners (judoka) are trained to utilize technique to disrupt their opponents' balance in order to throw them to the ground. Oftentimes, these throws not only result in a spectacular takedown, but also provide superior position to the judoka once they hit the ground.
